# Obsidian Task Export Plugin - Implementation Summary
## Overview
Successfully implemented a complete Obsidian plugin that ports the logic from the C# console application [markdown-task-export](https://github.com/tailormade-eu/markdown-task-export). The plugin provides native Obsidian integration with command palette, settings UI, ribbon icon, status bar, and automatic file watching.
## Implementation Status: ✅ COMPLETE
### Core Features Implemented
1. **Task Parser** (`src/parser.ts`)
- Direct port of C# `MarkdownParser.cs`
- Detects unchecked tasks: `- [ ]`
- Ignores completed tasks: `- [x]` and checkmark indicators
- Extracts hierarchical headers (##, ###, ####, etc.) - unlimited depth
- Handles nested tasks with parent task promotion to header levels
- Preserves empty hierarchy slots for structure
2. **CSV Writer** (`src/csv-writer.ts`)
- Direct port of C# `CsvExporter.cs`
- RFC 4180 compliant CSV escaping
- UTF-8 with BOM encoding for Excel compatibility
- Dynamic column generation based on max hierarchy depth
- Compress levels mode (removes empty columns)
- Header row control (include/exclude)
3. **Task Exporter** (`src/exporter.ts`)
- Direct port of C# `TaskExtractor.cs`
- Scans vault folders recursively
- Extracts customer name from folder structure
- Extracts project name from filename
- Uses Obsidian Vault API (cross-platform compatible)
- Proper error handling for missing files/folders
4. **File Watcher** (`src/file-watcher.ts`)
- Debounced file change detection (configurable 1-30 seconds)
- Filters to only markdown files in configured folder
- Enable/disable auto-export on demand
- Prevents excessive exports during bulk edits
5. **Settings UI** (`src/settings.ts`)
- Full Obsidian settings tab integration
- All 9 settings configurable via UI
- Real-time updates
- Input validation
6. **Main Plugin** (`src/main.ts`)
- Ribbon icon (file-text) for quick export
- Status bar with relative time display
- Three commands:
- Export Outstanding Tasks
- Toggle Auto-Export
- Open Export Settings
- Notification system for success/error feedback
- Concurrent export prevention
### Verification Results
**Build Status:** ✅ Success
```
> npm run build
✓ TypeScript compilation: OK
✓ esbuild bundling: OK
✓ Output: main.js (20KB)
```
**Test Results:** ✅ Verified
```
Test Files:
- Customer A / Project Alpha: 11 tasks
- Customer B / E-Commerce Site: 8 tasks
Total: 19 tasks
CSV Output Comparison:
✓ C# version: 19 tasks
✓ TypeScript version: 19 tasks
✓ diff (sorted): IDENTICAL
```
**Security Scan:** ✅ No Issues
```
CodeQL Analysis:
- JavaScript: 0 alerts
- No vulnerabilities detected
```
### CSV Output Example
```csv
CustomerName,ProjectName,Level1,Level2,Level3,Task
Customer A,Project Alpha,,Planning,,Review requirements
Customer A,Project Alpha,,Planning,Design architecture,Create database schema
Customer A,Project Alpha,,Planning,Design architecture,Define API endpoints
Customer A,Project Alpha,,Development,,Implement authentication
Customer A,Project Alpha,,Development,Frontend,Create login page
Customer B,E-Commerce Site,,Features,Shopping cart,Add to cart
```
### Technical Architecture
**Languages & Tools:**
- TypeScript 4.7+ (strict mode)
- Obsidian Plugin API
- esbuild (bundling)
- Node.js (development only)
**Cross-Platform Compatibility:**
- ✅ Windows, macOS, Linux (desktop)
- ✅ Android, iOS (mobile)
- ✅ Web version
- Uses Obsidian Vault API exclusively (no Node.js fs module)
**File Structure:**
